About Us

We are of a certain age therefore we called this site About My Age. It can mean different things to different people. Some of us say "What about my age"? Does it preclude me from living life to the fullest? Others say "I prefer to mix with people about my age". Whatever the name means to you, this site is for people aged 50 and over.

We have never liked the terms "baby boomers"," grey brigade", "seniors", "pensioners", "the aged" or any of the other terminology used nowadays to try to categorise our generation.

Our generation is redefining "old age". We have revolutionised our expectations and perceptions of ageing. We are living longer and healthier, we want more out of life and we are pushing the boundaries of what was once "acceptable behaviour" for our age group. We are choosing to work longer, play harder and ignore preconceived ideas of how we should live our lives. We may have retired from work, but we haven't retired from life. This website is dedicated to all of us who want more out of life.

We have designed this website to be fun and easy to use for our generational community. Membership here is FREE. The site is subsidised via advertising. We want people in their 50s, 60s and 70s and beyond to learn to embrace new technology in a safe and controlled environment.

Computers are here to stay and we can learn so much from them. We have created a social network and community oasis where people can meet similarly aged people online, broadcast news to family members near and far, voice their opinions on issues and generally get involved with an online community.

We can remember communities as they used to be, people caring for other people. In our day we didn't have many forms of communication. Only the lucky people had a phone, so we would more often than not simply arrive at someone's place and they would welcome us with a cuppa and some cake. We would talk, laugh, and share each other's stories, then more than likely walk home.

That is exactly what we have tried to recreate on this website. Simply drop in, meet new people or find old friends, have a chat, share your news, and voice your opinion.

This site includes Forums, discussions and groups relating to the specific needs of our age group. Just because we are over 50 now, doesn't mean that we don't still want to have fun, learn, meet, debate and laugh, especially at ourselves! We are young at heart, have spirit, interests and passions and we want to share our vast life experiences with others. The "kids" have plenty of sites to play around with. Why should they have all the fun?

About my age is a totally independent website. We are not affiliated with or beholden to any entity, therefore we welcome all points of view. We believe in old fashioned values like respect and good manners. We believe in free speech. We fought for Freedom of Speech.

Our generation has brought down a Government, stopped a war and won equal rights. Now, as an age group, we have the power to make change again if we choose.

It's a place where our generation can relax and enjoy mixing with similarly minded people. It's a place to have fun, get involved and make the most of every stage of our lives. It's a place to learn new technology at your own pace, ask questions, discuss and debate any issues or concerns and meet other people with similar interests.

We want About My Age to become the repository of all things relevant to our generation. One website in which to learn, laugh, mingle, meet, contribute and allow your voice to be heard. One website, one generation, one community.

We have only just started here at About My Age. There will be a lot of new features added, so we do ask for your Feedback on what features you like and dislike, and what features you would like to see in the future.

This site is about you and for you. Please participate in Forums and groups, write articles, respond to other people's comments and invite friends and family to join.

We will grow together.

Thank you.

Enjoy.
